The young man therefore leaves his home and familiar surroundings for a far more dangerous and unfamiliar city, determined to clear the debt and handle the problem himself. He also faces personal conflicts, including the creditor's daughter, who has fallen in love with him but whom he feels bound to protect. Adding to the tension, his mother gives him a necklace to carry on his journey, along with a letter for his future stepfather, which ultimately grants him permission to leave home and start a new life in the big city.

The protagonist sells the necklace that lets him enter the city, marking the end of his past and pushing him to find other ways to provide for his family. On the outskirts of the city, a guard who sells watches lets the protagonist into the room where he will be staying. This room serves as his starting point, where he can begin looking for ways to earn money while planning how to travel back to Bojong Lima and rescue his family. The city of Ainsley is presented in a 2D environment that creates the illusion of 3D structures.
